Are you worried about your bikini body but you have no interest in strict starvation diets? Even small changes to your daily routine will get your curves on the right track without any of the frustration that comes from dieting.

1. Ban ready meals
Out of the packet and onto the plate? Better not. Convenience food is certainly practical, but it often contains artificial glutamate, enemy of the good figure. Scientists suspect that this flavour enhancer blocks nerve cells which control the feeling of being full. If you don’t have the time to buy fresh food every day, you should instead rely on “unadulterated” frozen products. You can then turn plain vegetables or fish into a really tasty meal with a few fresh herbs and spices. Not only will your food taste better, in the long run you will also reduce your daily calorie intake.

2. Drink – But do it properly

Researchers from the Humboldt University in Berlin have discovered that water stimulates the body to burn energy. Alcoholic drinks, however, have the exact opposite effect. For example, although a litre of beer will give you the same amount of energy as eight grammes of fat, the intoxicant will also slow down the rate at which your body burns fat.

3. Replace cream with vegetables
Even if you are watching your weight, you don’t have to go without velvety sauces. And you don’t need to use any butter or cream to bind the sauce together: instead, cook up a few root vegetables or crunchy courgettes with your meal. Pureed together with the juices from your meat, these vegetables make lovely rich sauces – and they won’t turn into love handles!

4. The table becomes a stage

Give your everyday meals a real sense of occasion and you will take more time over them and take greater pleasure in eating in moderation. By contrast, gulping down snacks in front of the TV could increase your daily calorie intake by up to 60 percent. Take the time to dress your table smartly and invite friends and family round to share a meal. If you’re having a nice chat around the dinner table, you will automatically eat slower than you usually would. So you will feel full before that third helping hits your plate.

5. Lose weight by eating more
The old rule of “breakfast like a king, dine like a pauper” still rings true today for anyone watching their figure. If you give your metabolism a kick-start in the morning with a breakfast rich in protein and fibre, you will burn much more energy during the course of the day - and will be better able to resist those fatty treats on offer at work.

6. Attention fitness fans
It’s true that physical activity increases the rate at which the body burns fat. But if you take a long run and then reward yourself with seconds at dinner, you will not get much benefit from all your efforts. Above all, make sure you build up a moderate amount of muscle, as these little power packs burn a lot of calories without you actually having to do anything.

7. Be good to yourself
If you deny yourself every single type of indulgence, you will soon run the risk of tipping over the edge. One piece of chocolate quickly becomes a whole bar because “oh well, I’ve done it now”. After a stressful day at work, ring the changes and reward yourself with a luxurious bubble bath, rather than the usual calorific comfort food. It will be sure to give you sweet dreams. And what’s more, during your relaxing night’s sleep your body will automatically get to work on your fat reserves.
