If you buy vacuum-packed whole beans or ground coffee, you should be aware that the coffee will keep for at least 10 months. Once roasted, coffee quickly loses its aroma when it comes into contact with oxygen.

 

So it is better to buy small amounts of coffee and to consume it within two weeks. Alternatively, you can buy whole, freshly roasted coffee beans and grind them yourself shortly before you want to make the coffee. Once the coffee packaging has been opened, you should not top it up with new beans, as they should have as little contact with oxygen as possible. Always keep the foil packaging closed and store in a well sealed container in a cool place, where possible. However, coffee will lose its aroma if stored in the fridge. It is better to take the coffee out of the fridge half an hour before brewing or to store it at room temperature.
