Poggenpohl shows innovations in manufacture and design of units and drawers
The devil’s in the devil, says the proverb. But attention to detail is also the key to the well-loved kitchens made by premium manufacturer Poggenpohl – any number of smaller and larger details in quality and functionality. Like the inset fronts and doors or the innovative design of drawers and pullouts. Side panels can be decorated to match the fronts and special lightweight honeycomb-core boards used in the carcase. Every detail of a Poggenpohl kitchen is part of a well-thought-out whole and an expression of the highest level of craftsmanship and quality manufacturing.
Extraordinary design quality quite often also requires innovative solutions in its realisation. For example, Poggenpohl uses a specially developed lightweight construction method to manufacture the PLUSMODO® work surface, which is 13 centimetres thick and still looks as if it is floating. High-tech, lightweight construction panels are also used for the entire carcase construction of the Porsche Design P´7340 kitchen. These are a sandwich construction, with wooden outer layers, which are only a few millimetres thick, strengthened on the inside by a “honeycomb” core made of cardboard. This not only reduces the weight but also reduces the amount of materials used by 40 percent. Another example of Poggenpohl’s commitment to sustainability.
Also unique in the kitchen furniture sector are the inset fronts and doors of the Porsche Design kitchen. And since they are designed without handles, they are opened using a motor-controlled mechanism.
For the new +ARTESIO® Poggenpohl has once again developed a special carcase, because the visible unit sides are a typical design feature of the new kitchen concept. In the past, the sides of kitchen units were usually made of laminated chipboard. Now for the first time the new carcase of +ARTESIO® allows for side units with the same design as the front, thus achieving a uniform and consistent design and form language for the whole kitchen. One example might be front and side panels made of glass. Incidentally, this carcase design is a unique innovation in kitchen design.
From now on all Poggenpohl kitchens are delivered with a new, specially developed drawer and pullout design. The inner side walls are rectangular and straight. The unusual feature of this new pullout design lies in the drawer boxes which are only 8 mm thick and are made of lightweight but robust aluminium. The assembly of the drawer runner with what is currently the thinnest drawer box on the market, as well as the mounting of the front panel are demanding and highly skilled tasks. All variants offer assisted opening and pullouts can be fitted with built-in LED lighting which is automatically activated when the drawer is opened to ensure a perfect view.
The new drawer and pullout design also permits an even more individual and flexible interior organisation. Poggenpohl offers a choice of two organisation systems. One is a modular system with various-sized compartments in genuine walnut or maple wood. It provides many choices, including all-purpose boxes with adjustable subdivisions, cutlery inserts, inserts for spice containers, knife inserts and plate holders. The alternative is also a high-quality modular system, but here the bottom of the drawer is lined with linoleum and variable dividers made of aluminium or walnut are used to configure the subdivisions in the drawer.
Whatever kitchen design and fittings a Poggenpohl customer finally decides on, they can be sure that their kitchen will feature premium quality and functionality.
