The Kusmi Tea Collection from Jean Paul Gaultier

The Grand Palais in Paris is celebrating the work of Jean-Paul Gaultier with a retrospective exhibition from April 1 to August 3, 2015. To coincide with the opening, Kusmi Tea, an exhibition sponsor, is launching a five-part product collection incorporating distinctive designs from the famous fashion designer.

From the 1970s to the present, Jean Paul Gaultier and his vision have regularly gone against the stream of fashion. With his huge curiosity about other cultures, he supersedes conventional sociological and aesthetic norms with expert ease and creates an avantgarde, colourful fashion style. In many ways, this approach also reflects the philosophy of Kusmi Tea, a company whose products go against many habits of the traditional world of tea. Kusmi Tea also embodies the idea of the “beauty of blends”, where different tastes, cultures and colours meet, as well as its commitment to contemporary art and design.

Inspired by signature pieces from the world of Jean Paul Gaultier, this exclusive collection features some of the designer’s favourite colours (navy blue) and tattoos, as well as blending masculine and feminine aspects.

So it was a completely natural that Jean Paul Gaultier decided to give two teas, Anastasia and Prince Vladimir – the emblematic pairing from Kusmi Tea – a radical new design. These two teas are among the most traditional Kusmi teas; created in St. Petersburg they echo the link to the designer’s Russian collection in the 1980s. The  ”enfant terrible” of fashion takes a playful approach with the vision of a tea box in the shape of a hat box decorated with his signature marine stripes and a red pompom echoing a sailor’s uniform.

With a nod in the direction of the world of fashion and the world of tea, the tote bag and the tea mug – two must haves from the Kusmi Tea range of accessories – have distinctive elements of the Gaultier look.
